Herd Health

As we have read about goats, raised goats, and interacted with others who raise goats, we have found that many approaches and techniques exist regarding health and care. We have adopted practices that we feel will result in healthy and contented goats. We have committed to ongoing learning such that health will remain a top priority. We intend to continue raising productive, show-quality goats. We desire complete confidence in selling the animals that we cannot keep to anyone--from seasoned goat breeders to first time buyers who wish to begin well.

We recognize that if someone in our family does not feel well, not much else matters. We believe that our goats must have great health as well. In August 2012 we began feeding fodder (barley sprouts) to our herd. “Barley grass is considered the most nutritional of the green grasses containing an abundance of nutrients unsurpassed by any other type of grass.” Our goats now have access to fresh green feed year around. For roughage we feed an alfalfa/grass mix. We no longer feed processed grains of any kind. We offer a very high quality mineral and sodium bicarbonate free-choice. We maintain fresh water in buckets.

We feel very pleased that the entire herd once again tested negative for CAE and CL in 2021.
